A crazy fuck who is no more confused and astounded by planet Earth than you are.
"First of all, I think it is absurd that though we (us, vegans), who don’t eat anything that was once living or came from a living being, constantly have to defend our eating habits, while omnivores’ lifestyle go on freely because it’s the social norm. Now I’m not here to pass judgement on what you eat, just as I’d appreciate you to stop judging me what I eat. It’s a lifestyle choice, emphasis on the choice. But whats the main difference between vegans and carnists? Knowledge. We are more aware of the externalities associated with the cultivating of animals for food. This is not just about the cruelty towards animals (though that’s certainly how this all began for me), but its also about the environmental, health, social, and political issues attached to an omnivores lifestyle. I’m not here to say eating meat is unnatural and bad for humans, because it honestly isn’t that awful. But it has become this way through the excessive amount we consume and the industrial method of factory farms. It has come far from natural (which meaning has been exploited in the past decade or so).
So mainly I just want to say, I’m sorry vegans occassionlly get pissy when y’all constantly make fun of our personal lifestyle choices, but it gets goddamn old continuously having to defend our diet. So maybe instead of posting passive aggressive things on the web, go watch Forks over Knives on Netflix or Food Inc., read Eating Animals by Jonathon Foer, Skinny Bitch, or The Omnivore’s Dilema by Michael Pollan (or his other book In the Defense of Food).
If it really bothers you about our choices, maybe you should try to learn about why we do what we do. I know we vegans love to spout out facts and information about food, but it’s an obsession and lifestyle: we just feel everyone should know what we have learned about food because as Paul McCartney once said “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian."
